Since the announcement that the NEA withdrew our funding, we’ve been overwhelmed, in the best possible way.
Your response has been immediate, heartfelt, and powerful. From generous donations to hand-written cards, notes, and even stickers tucked into envelopes, your love for the Lowell Folk Festival is showing loud and clear. With all of our hearts we thank you.
We wanted to share a reflection from Myra O. Liwanag, Executive Director of Iskwelahang Pilipino, a group that has been part of the festival family since the very beginning and is beloved by attendees:
“The festival is the highlight of the year for our students. They take pride in every task, whether they are little ones folding napkins and rolling egg rolls, or teenagers serving food and providing customer service. It is a unique opportunity for students to share their culture with the broader community and to experience the fulfillment that comes from working together, and working hard, to achieve a goal. In my experience, working at the festival builds character and develops job skills among students like my daughter, who has grown up working at our booth year after year.”
“For decades, the Lowell Folk Festival has brought our community together in a special way, allowing us to share our heritage and strengthen bonds both within our group and with the city as a whole, while also contributing to growth and prosperity in the region.”
Stories like these remind us exactly why we do what we do. So, we want to hear from you to let Beacon Hill and Capitol Hill know just how important this event is to all of you.
What does the Lowell Folk Festival mean to you? What’s your favorite tradition? The band that blew you away? The first time you introduced someone you love to your favorite food stall?

If you haven’t yet had a chance to give, please know that we value every single dollar.
It only takes a $10 donation from each of our visitors to fully support the festival, even as public arts funding disappears from the national agenda.
