Lowell Folk Festival’s 39th year a big hit
Great weather, big crowds celebrate music, food and the city’s 200th birthday
The 39th Lowell Folk Festival was one for the record books, with great weather and big crowds that lingered even as the three-day event started winding down Sunday evening.
The festival had, as John Carolan, of Lowell said, “a really great vibe.”
“The weather has been so nice,” Carolan said. “Everybody seems happy.”
He attended his 39th festival with his nephew, Chris, who is on festival number four.
Carolan’s wife is Greek, so he said he was partial to the Greek food in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox tent in JFK Plaza behind City Hall, but like many attendees, the duo sampled the cuisine available from at least 15 different countries.
“Most of the time, I try new food,” Chris said. “The Laotian and Filipino tents had really good food.”
They were making their way over to Merrimack Street from the Boarding House Park stage area to listen to some music before heading to Market Street and JFK Plaza for more food.
They both said they were looking forward to Folk Fest 40.
