Lowell Folk Festival 2021 Cancelled

After much consideration, the Lowell Folk Festival’s Producing Partners are announcing the cancellation of the 2021 Lowell Folk Festival. This is due to the ongoing restrictions for mass gatherings and festivals as well as the continued concern for the health and welfare of festival artists, staff, volunteers and attendees . The Festival’s Producing Partners plan for the return of the Folk Fest on July 29-31, 2022, and anticipate it to be bigger and better than ever.

This year’s festival was scheduled for July 23-25, 2021, with the finest in traditional music, dance, ethnic food, and a celebration of the various cultures of our diverse community. The decision to cancel was based on the information currently available regarding the reopening of businesses across the state.

The Lowell Folk Festival Producing Partners struggled with this difficult decision. In a normal year, the festival draws 150,000 people to Lowell. The Folk Festival is New England’s premier traditional arts festival and helps to support downtown businesses, as well as the many local nonprofit organizations who sell international cuisine at the festival. However, we must prioritize public safety, which is why we cannot produce a festival of this magnitude this summer.

We hope that volunteers and community members who support the festival will turn their efforts to helping those in need and affected by the pandemic. Give to arts and culture organizations and continue supporting local businesses by purchasing gift cards, and ordering take out from local restaurants. Help us start planning for a bigger and better 2022 Lowell Folk Festival by giving today.
